We as a society have become more and more rushed in our everyday lives to the point where we no longer take the time each day to sit back and revel in the many blessings in our lives.
It is truly sad that as children of God (in whatever manner we choose to believe) that we no longer take the time each day to thank Him for the many blessings in our lives. Can any one of us honestly believe that we get through each new day without help from God? Are we truly that naive as to believe we can do everything alone?
I know that in my own life there is never a day that passes that I am not intensely thankful for the blessings that I have received. I am thankful each morning when I awaken and slip from bed into my wheelchair that I have been given yet another day. I am thankful each time I go outside my home that I am able to live a relatively normal life from day to day knowing that it is by Gods grace that I am still here.
Almost 20 years ago now I was the victim of a Domestic assault (my spouse chose to chase me down a highway with his tractor trailor and ran me off the road) which left me with serious spinal damage. My neck was broken at C5,6,7,8 & 9 but by the grace of God my cord was not seriously damamged at that level. However there was damage further down at T12 which did sever the spinal cord. The incident also caused a serious head injury which left me in a coma for some 13 weeks and has had some residual effects such as memory loss. By medical standards I should have died that day, from where I see it I was so very blessed.
As a mother I have lived through the saddest moment any mother could ever have to endure… I have had to bury not one but all three of my beautiful children… Where is this a blessing you ask? I was blessed to have had my children in my life for even a short time and I personally believe children are here with us as a loan from God and when they have done what He sent them to do, He takes them back home with Him…Would I wish this heartache on someone else? No I would not… But I know that I was blessed not once but three times to have had my three beautiful children even if only for a while. Yes they are gone from this life, but they live within my heart every minute of every day that I continue to live…
Others may not view spending the balance of life in a wheelchair as a blessing… I see it not only as a blessing but as a chance to give of myself to others so that maybe just maybe I can prevent something like this from happening in another womans life.
Life is not guaranteed to last for a specific length of time. Each day that we awaken is a blessing from God and we as individuals should make every effort to pass those blessings along to those we may know of who are less fortunate than ourselves. A simple kind word to someone who is sad… A hug to someone who is having a bad day… So many things we can do that take so little effort from us but could be the thing that gives someone else the strength to go on for another day.
